Where claims cost most in Greece

No company publishes a price list by area. What is published is how often a claim happens and what it costs - the ΕΑΕΕ Statistical Yearbook 2024 , by prefecture. Multiply frequency by average cost and out comes the euro an insured vehicle costs a year, before a company adds anything - the technical cost, not the price.

The five zones: risk against the national average

Each zone's average is weighted by the population of each prefecture - a stand-in for vehicle counts, which the yearbook does not give by prefecture - from the 2021 ΕΛΣΤΑΤ census. 1.0× is the country itself.

The mistake in the «cheap» islands

«Islands» sits last in the order of zones, on the assumption that fewer cars meet each other there. The yearbook counts the claims, and disagrees: it is two different risks inside one zone.

Chania and Zakynthos cost more than the rural mainland average; Lesvos and Samos less than half of it. The tourist islands carry the zone's difference.

The ladder by vehicle use

The same technical cost, by vehicle type instead of place. A taxi costs 2.31 times a private car in third-party liability claims.

The gap we admit to

Each zone's average is weighted by population, not by vehicle count - nobody publishes the second one by prefecture. A tourist island keeps more cars than its population implies.
